Polishes on Stainless Sheet

Brush Finish

There are many polishes that can be applied to stainless steel sheet. Polishing does not just mean treating the metal surface to achieve a shine, it means all degrees of reflectivity from dead matt to super bright.

Super bright is commonly called mirror finish. Metal Sheets stocks super bright but also stocks a special product called Super Mirror, a much superior product.

The finish refered to as "Brushed Finish" has a trade reference "DP" which means "Dull Polish" . This finish is achieved using grit in the polishing media.  Variations in the brush effect are obtained by using grits of different sizes.Metal Sheets normally stocks 240 grit finish.

This finish is polular for domestic and commercial kitchen splashbacks, (Splash Backs or Back Splashes), and display equipment.

Circles Finish

 The Circles polish is a variation of the Dull Polish which produces overlapping circles. This sheet is often found in the catering trade and mobile trailer kitchens.

 
Grade 304 stainless steel is the old 18/8 stainless and the most widely used grade of stainless.

It has excellant corrosion resistance.

It is typically used in catering to make vats, bowls, pipework, table tops, counter units and point of sale displays and also in the manufacture of dairy and brewery equipment.

316 stainless steel is more corrosion resistant than 304 and is suitable for marine and coastal applications.

Typical catering uses for grade 316 are components used with more corrosive foods, (e.g. meat/blood, foods with moderate salt content) where frequent cleaning takes place.

Other applications include pharmaceutical.

Grades of stainless steel higher than 316 are available for use in more corrosive environments such as hot brine, salty and slow moving foods. 

430 stainless steel is a lower grade stainless and is suitable for indoor uses. It has good corrosion resistance.

Typical catering uses for grade 430 are splash backs, table tops, equipment cladding and panelling and moderately corrosive environments, (e.g. vegetables, fruits, drinks, dry food etc). Other uses are domestic ware and motor trim.
